Frequently asked questions

Does payroll work in every province and territory?

Yes. Samwell calculates federal tax and tax for all 13 provinces and territories, CPP and EI. In Quebec, it also calculates Quebec tax, QPP and QPIP.

Is the RL-1 slip produced?

Not yet as an official file: producing the RL-1 is awaiting authorization from Revenu Québec. Until then, Samwell prepares entry sheets for the RL-1 and the summary, to copy into Revenu Québec’s My Account.

Who checks the calculations?

You do. Calculations are proposed, never imposed. Before each pay run, a review flags anything off, then a second person approves. In a small organization, the executive director can approve alone, and that approval is recorded in the log.

Does Samwell pay salaries and remittances for me?

No. Samwell prepares the direct deposit file for your bank and calculates remittances with their due dates. You stay in control of every payment.

Are interns and contractors supported?

Yes. Paid interns are paid through payroll, like other employees. Contractors are paid separately and receive a T4A slip.
