Time off, timesheets and time clock, without paper

Each person submits requests online. Their manager approves, and payroll receives the approved hours.

What you gain

  • No more leave requests lost in email
  • Accurate balances, with no spreadsheet to maintain
  • Each person’s statutory holidays and legal minimums, already in place
  • Hours approved once, flowing straight into payroll

What Samwell does

  • Leave types created by the organization: in days or hours, annual or accrued allowance, carry-over
  • Legal minimums for all 13 provinces and territories and federal employers, with the section of the law cited
  • Statutory holidays of each person’s province or territory
  • Balances calculated automatically, following each leave type’s rules
  • Approval by the manager; nobody approves their own request
  • Timesheets submitted, then approved by the manager
  • Clock in, breaks and clock out, at server time, if the organization turns it on
  • Time clock limited to the office network or a front desk tablet, as the organization chooses
  • Overtime flagged using the thresholds of the jurisdiction

Frequently asked questions

Are my province’s leave rules already in place?

Yes. The legal minimums for all 13 provinces and territories and federal employers are taken from the law, with the section cited. You create your own leave types, and Samwell flags any gap with the legal minimum.

Is the time clock mandatory?

No. It is off by default: the organization turns it on if needed. Timesheets work without it.

Does the time clock use geolocation?

No, no geolocation at all. To prevent abuse, the organization can require the office network or a front desk tablet.

Do approved hours go to payroll?

Yes. Payroll reads the hours from approved timesheets: nothing is entered twice.
